Coral

What is Coral?

Corals are invertebrate animals that belong to a large group of colorful and fascinating wildlife called Cnidaria. Although Cnidarians exhibit a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes, they all share the same distinguishing characteristics; a simple stomach with a single mouth opening surrounded by stinging tentacles. All corals are generally classified into groups of either “hard coral” or “soft coral.” Each individual coral animal is called a polyp, and most live in groups of hundreds to thousands of genetically identical polyps that form a ‘colony’. The colony is formed by a process called budding, which is where the original polyp grows copies of itself through asexual reproduction.

Our Coral is aquacultured and is not from the wild or imported from other vendors. We do not focus on coral sales but rather have tanks in our facility that time to time need to be thinned out. Any coral you see on our site is from our well-established colonies from many years ago.

General Care:

We keep all our tanks at the following parameters:

Temp: 76 degrees Fahrenheit

Alkalinity: 9-9.8

Calcium: 420-460

Magnesium: 1340-1380

Lighting: Ai Hydra and Ai Primes at 30-40%

It is always recommended to dip your coral prior to introducing to your own reef tank. This ensures bacteria (or “hitchhikers”) are removed should they exist. Also be sure to use some of your own reef tank water as well as the water shipped to help acclimate your coral to its new home.
